I love having fun with my grandsons, so much for them to experience and learn.

Baby Blanket

This blanket is very simple to make, use it as a guide to make one that suits you.  I have added a boat and a truck. As alternatives, you could use a train, car, aeroplane, helicopter, or a range of animals, using vibrant colours.  This one is approximately 1 metre square.  It consists of 3 layers of material. I have used printed, cotton material for top layer, blue fleecy material for the underneath side and a thicker piece for the middle. Don’t make it too thick though, as it still needs to be washable.

Next I stitched through the 3 thicknesses, approx 10cm apart using a fairly large stitch,  to give it a bit of a “puffy” look. I measured and ruled a faint line across, to make it easy to sew. This helps to hold it all together neatly.

The boat and train were hand drawn, cut out in contrasting colours and zig zagged around the edge.   This gave an outline of the truck and boat on the reverse side of the blanket.

For edging I bought some satin ribbon, ironed it in half, pinning it on to hold it in place, then did a zig zag stitch to hold it firmly in place.

It is an ideal blanket for putting on the floor for tummy time.
